The Current State of Music Radio Show 19 July 2025

Emotional overload

This show starts with a couple of tracks that are about 20 mins each in length, and there is a reason for that.

My daughter has just finished primary school and it has thrown up a lot of emotions, both for her at a time of big change, and for me as a parent. The school has become part of our routine and I feel I am very much part of the community, one which we are now leaving.

The emotional drain has been palpable and when I started recording the show, I just didn’t have it in the tank to really dive in as I usually do. So I thought I’d let some music do its restorative thing, a couple of amazing, long tracks, so I could sit, listen, gather my thoughts and energy.

So, from Melanie De Biasio’s ‘Blackened Cities’ and Four Tets ‘Morning’ to where we end up, via some charity shop finds, I hope this show does for you what it did for me.

If you are a parent in similar circumstances then I hope you can find some time to sit still and let some music do its thing for you too.
